It is a requirement for both Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) and Development Consent Order (DCO) applications that advertisements go out to local papers for two successive weeks prior to consultation events. Some consultations may require publicising in media further afield. Adverts must include a brief narrative of the scheme and the purpose of the consultation, plus dates and locations of events. Adverts should normally be placed in local papers or council newsletters, although some cases may require publications further afield. We recommend using half-page adverts.

All media buying in Network Rail is completed by McCann Erickson – their contact details are in the  appendix. They provide information on format, frequency and circulation of all the media outlets in the chosen area, and book and manage insertions.

When supplying digital images, ensure they’re in the correct format and resolution for use in publications.
