There are a number of key stages within each phase of a public consultation process. The table below sets out what should happen with each one.
Stage |
Description |
Activity/Media |
Public consultation |
Launching plans to consultees and engaging in an open, transparent and meaningful way. |
Collating comments from the public, community groups and key stakeholders. |
Analysis and assessment of consultation feedback |
Reviewing feedback from all consultees to understand the key themes/issues. |
Amending the scheme, if feasible, in response to consultation responses. |
Reporting back on changes made to the scheme |
There may be a requirement to provide an update on changes to the scheme prior to another round of formal consultation. |
Most schemes will require more than one phase of consultation. Always allow enough time in a consultation programme between each phase for feedback to be properly evaluated and taken on board.
Information on what should be consulted on is covered in this section: What to include in consultation collateral
