There will be a lot of detailed technical information available about a scheme which is ready for consultation. It’s important to take this complex information and distil it down to its key points using clear and concise language.

Collaborate with scheme team members to ensure the information you present is accurate and reflects the progress of the project. Also check with the sponsor, engineers and legal team.

The consultation collateral should make it clear what is being consulted on and how the feedback will be used, and provide clear timelines for the process. It should also highlight that plans are only proposals at the consultation stage.

Consultation collateral should generally focus on the following key points:

  • Overview of the proposed scheme design
  • Overview of the benefits of the scheme
  • Information on how any of the plans have changed or been updated following a previous round of consultation
  • The Construction plan, including any likely lorry routes, plant crossings, and areas of work and storage
  • Any emerging environmental findings
  • Information on the application/consultation process, and an explanation of how feedback will be used
  • Timeline for the application/consultation process
