Consultation should take place at key stages during the development and design of a scheme’s proposals. This allows people to give meaningful feedback at different stages of the project whilst the plans are still evolving.

Large schemes would usually require at least two phases of consultation, with each phase of formal consultation lasting between four and eight weeks.

It’s essential to show that there has been an evolution in thought throughout the process, and that consultation is not just a box-ticking exercise.
